A convicted felon with a history of violence has been arrested in Florida for possessing a firearm, a federal crime that could land him in prison for up to 15 years.
Timothy Lee King, 33, of Groveland, was arrested on a federal indictment charging him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to the indictment, King was in possession of a firearm and ammunition on January 16, 2024.
King’s history of violence stretches back over a decade, with 11 previous felony convictions, including fleeing and eluding law enforcement, burglary, and two prior convictions for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Under federal law, King is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to his prior felony convictions.
“This case is a clear example of our commitment to keeping our communities safe from violent crime and gun violence,” said United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg. “We will continue to work tirelessly to hold accountable those who break the law and pose a threat to our neighborhoods.”
The investigation into King’s activities was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Leesburg Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk is handling the prosecution of the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through a collaborative effort between law enforcement and the community. PSN was launched in 2001 and has since become a model for crime reduction initiatives across the country.
King’s arrest is a significant blow to those who would seek to exploit our communities through violence and gun crime. His case serves as a reminder that our law enforcement agencies will continue to work tirelessly to keep our neighborhoods safe.
