Fentanyl Dealer Tossed Gun, Drugs From Window

WASHINGTON D.C. – A D.C. fentanyl dealer is facing serious time after a jury found him guilty on multiple federal charges yesterday, stemming from a chaotic arrest last November. Derrick Thomas Martin, 33, chucked a backpack containing a loaded handgun and a hefty stash of narcotics out of his apartment window as cops moved in, according to prosecutors.

The jury didn’t take long – less than a day – to convict Martin of possessing over 100 grams of fentanyl analog, 500 grams of cocaine, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possessing that firearm while trafficking drugs.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro didn’t pull any punches describing the scene. “Martin stashed large quantities of drugs and cash in an apartment where a child slept just feet from a loaded, micro draco pistol, a gun that fired the same bullets as an AK-47 assault rifle,” she said. “With 31 prior arrests, this career criminal posed a clear danger to our community.”

The bust went down November 25, 2024, at an apartment on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue SE. Martin was already wanted on an outstanding warrant from Cecil County, Maryland, for failing to appear on prior gun and drug charges. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Criminal Apprehension Unit knocked, Martin reportedly tossed the black backpack from a window. Inside, they found a loaded Century Arms Micro Draco pistol, roughly 700 grams of cocaine, and a staggering 5,700+ fentanyl pills. A struggle ensued when officers entered the apartment.

Martin is scheduled to be sentenced July 10, 2026, before Judge Trevor N. McFadden. He’s looking at a minimum of 15 years behind bars.
