Fentanyl Kingpin Cody Kinzie Dittmar Convicted in Overdose Deaths

A convicted federal felon who peddled deadly fentanyl and heroin in the Cedar Rapids area has been found guilty of causing two overdose deaths in Marion, Iowa.

Cody Kinzie Dittmar, a 34-year-old from Dubuque, Iowa, was convicted by a jury on June 25, 2025, after a three-day trial in federal court in Cedar Rapids. The evidence presented in court showed that Dittmar was released to federal supervised release in June 2023, but he immediately began selling heroin and fentanyl with his girlfriend, then wife, Alysha (Gould) Dittmar.

On July 1, 2023, the Dittmars sold a mixture of heroin, fentanyl, and xylazine to a customer in Marion, Iowa. The customer and his wife used the drugs shortly thereafter, both dying of overdoses. The Dittmars continued to sell heroin and fentanyl in the Cedar Rapids area until July 2024. Alysha Dittmar previously pled guilty to distribution of heroin and fentanyl resulting in the two deaths.

Dittmar faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment on each count and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, $2,000,000 in fines, and a lifetime of supervised release following any imprisonment. Sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams will be set after a presentence report is prepared.

The case was investigated by the Marion Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force, comprising the DEA; the Linn County Sheriff’s Office; the Cedar Rapids Police Department; the Marion Police Department; and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
