Fentanyl Trafficker Gets 84 Months Behind Bars

Grimy Times has learned that Sean James Edwards, 34, was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation in Spokane, Washington. Edwards pleaded guilty to one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute 40 Grams of Fentanyl on [date].

United States District Judge Mary K. Dimke imposed the sentence, which will be followed by 4 years of supervised release. The case was investigated by the FBI Spokane Regional Safe Streets Task Force and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick J. Cashman.

According to court documents, Edwards was involved in a shooting on November 3, 2022, in the area of 515 S. Farr Road. Deputies responded to the scene and found a black Kia Rio crashed into a parked vehicle. A rifle and a loaded magazine were found on the passenger seat, as well as a spent silver casing on the floorboard of the Kia Rio.

A neighbor reported that he saw Edwards and another person running away from the crash on his security camera. Deputies had the Kia Rio towed to the police impound lot and executed a search warrant on the vehicle the next day. Inside, they found a loaded pistol, several loaded magazines, dozens of rounds of ammunition, Edwards’s Montana State ID, two iPhones, methamphetamine, and over 1,400 fentanyl pills divided into several small bags.

“This case demonstrates the dangerous nexus of drug trafficking and violent crime,” said U.S. Attorney Vanessa R. Waldref. “A resident called law enforcement because someone had fired a shot into his home. Mr. Edwards ran from the scene, leaving behind fentanyl he planned to distribute and weapons he was not legally allowed to possess.”

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. Edwards’s sentence is a significant blow to the fentanyl trafficking operation and a reminder of the dangers of such crimes. The FBI and local law enforcement agencies are committed to continuing their efforts to combat fentanyl trafficking and keep communities safe.

The public is urged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities. With the cooperation of the community, law enforcement can better identify and prosecute those involved in fentanyl trafficking and other crimes.

As the war on fentanyl continues, Grimy Times will provide updates on cases like Edwards’s to keep the public informed and aware of the dangers of fentanyl trafficking.
