Memphis, TN – In a stunning turn of events, two high-ranking members of the Unknown Vice Lords (UVL) street gang have been convicted by a federal jury in Memphis for the ruthless murder of a fellow gang member suspected of betrayal. Edward Allen, also known as E-Money, 42, and Deandre Rodgers, also known as Dre, 29, face substantial prison sentences after being found guilty of gunning down the victim in broad daylight.
The trial revealed that the UVL, a criminal enterprise with tendrils reaching across Memphis and into neighboring states, had long been involved in a cycle of murder, robbery, assault, human trafficking, and drug trafficking. The murder of their Supreme Elite Chief, the state leader for Tennessee, sparked a wave of retaliation within the gang.
“This was not just another street gang murder,” said Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva from the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “The deliberate nature of this act, carried out in public view, is a stark reminder of the terror these gangs instill in our communities.”
The victim, identified as a fellow UVL member who was believed to have informed on the Chief’s murder, met his end five days later at the hands of Allen and Rodgers. The gang’s ruthless pursuit of retribution sent shockwaves through the city.
“E-Money, Dre, and their ilk are no longer unknown,” declared U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant for the Western District of Tennessee. “This successful prosecution sends a message to all those who think they can live by violence: your time is up.”
Jamey VanVliet of the ATF Nashville Field Division echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to dismantling violent criminal networks. “We will not rest until our communities are safe again,” he said.
