SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF INDIANA – Gerson Enrique Cisneros, 20, of El Salvador, has been sentenced to a combined four years in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. The sentence comes after a nightmarish incident at Sunset Skate Park in Evansville on February 3, 2025.
Cisneros was arrested following reports of shots fired near the skate park. He drove a minivan containing five masked males, one of whom fled upon police arrival. Inside the vehicle, officers found Cisneros with a loaded semi-automatic 9mm pistol hidden beneath his seat, containing 18 rounds.
Cisneros had an active warrant for reckless driving in Posey County and was an illegal alien, prohibited from possessing firearms under federal law. His arrest also revealed he had never possessed a valid driver’s license.
In separate cases, Josue Miguel Perez-Perez and Rosario Valencia-Ambrosio of Mexico were also sentenced for illegal reentry after convictions for assault and conspiracy to distribute cocaine, respectively. Perez-Perez faced six months in prison, while Valencia-Ambrosio received 23 months.
“Criminal aliens that habitually cross into our country illegally and endanger our communities must face consequences,” said Tom Wheeler, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. “We will continue to enforce our Nation’s immigration laws and hold these repeat offenders fully accountable.”
The sentences were imposed by U.S. District Judges Tanya Walton Pratt and Matthew P. Brookman, with investigations led by Homeland Security Investigations, ATF, ICE, and Evansville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Todd S. Shellenbarger, Adam Eakman, and Carolyn Haney prosecuted the cases.
