GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Terrance Robinson, 29, a Fitzgerald, Georgia native, has been handed a harsh sentence of 360 months imprisonment for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. Thesentence was imposed by Senior U.S. District Judge Hugh Lawson on October 28, 2013, in Valdosta.
The saga began on May 23, 2012, when Robinson was stopped for a traffic violation by officers from the Tift County Sheriff’s Office. What followed was a harrowing high-speed chase that ended with a dramatic head-on collision involving a stolen police car and another patrol vehicle.
Robinson, caught after trying to flee on foot, admitted his guilt during a July 29, 2013, plea, revealing how he struggled with officers before attempting to escape in the stolen police car. The pursuit ended when Robinson’s car collided with another law enforcement vehicle, leaving him no choice but to surrender.
Upon searching the car, authorities discovered 404.2 grams of crack cocaine divided into 21 plastic baggies. ‘This significant sentence properly punishes Mr. Robinson for his illegal drug dealing and endangerment of law enforcement and the public,’ said U.S. Attorney Michael Moore. ‘It should serve as a reminder to anyone who participates in illegal drug activity that you can run from the law, but you will be caught.’
The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Mid-South Narcotics Task Force, and the Tift County Sheriff’s Office collaborated on the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter Leary led the prosecution.
