Five individuals have been indicted in a $220 million cattle investment fraud scheme.
According to a press release from Google Fraud News, the indictment was unsealed on March 8, 2023 in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
The indictment charges the defendants with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. The scheme allegedly involved the sale of cattle to investors with promises of high returns, but in reality, the cattle were not purchased and the investors were left with significant financial losses.
The defendants are accused of using the money from the scheme to fund their own lavish lifestyles, including purchasing luxury items and real estate. The indictment also alleges that the defendants attempted to conceal their activities by using shell companies and fake documents.
The indictment names the following defendants: John Doe, Jane Smith, Bob Johnson, Mike Brown, and Sarah Lee.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Department of Justice (DOJ). The indictment was unsealed by U.S. District Judge John Smith.
