A Florida man has been arrested in connection with a gold-based fraud scheme in Kinston, North Carolina, police say.
According to a press release from the Google Fraud News, Michael Johnson, 32, was taken into custody on March 10, 2024 on charges of Wire Fraud and Securities Fraud.
The arrest was made by the Kinston Police Department in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The charges stem from a scheme in which Johnson allegedly sold gold to investors, promising unusually high returns, but instead used the funds for personal gain.
Johnson is currently being held at the Lenoir County Detention Center pending a court appearance.
