Smith Johnson, Embezzlement, Ohio 2023

A former nonprofit director in Ohio has been sentenced to prison for theft of more than $200,000.

According to the Ohio Attorney General’s office, James A. Johnson was sentenced to 30 months in prison for his role in the theft.

Johnson, who served as the director of the Community Action Agency of Lake County in Painesville, Ohio, was accused of embezzling funds from the agency between 2017 and 2020.

Johnson pleaded guilty to one count of theft in office and was sentenced on March 14, 2023 by the Lake County Common Pleas Court.

The case was investigated by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
