Baltimore, MD – Today’s grim headlines brought the sentence of David Jamal Watson, 40, of Fort Washington, who was meted out a 30-year federal prison term plus 15 years of supervised release for his monstrous acts of sexually exploiting two minors. The victims, aged 9 and 13 at the time, were both subjected to unimaginable horrors by Watson.
Watson’s depravity didn’t stop there; he produced child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and attempted to sell it online using platforms like Telegram, Instagram, Twitter, and Google. His actions were halted when the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force caught wind of his activities in July 2023.
Two CyberTips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led law enforcement straight to Watson’s doorstep. A subsequent search warrant revealed a trove of over 600 CSAM images, including nude content of his victims and others. Telegram conversations also revealed Watson’s sinister plans to sell his victims’ images.
Watson was arrested in November 2023, and further investigation into his Instagram account revealed attempts to sell CSAM to at least three other users. The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation.
U.S. Attorney Hayes commended Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Maryland State Police (MSP) for their relentless pursuit of justice in this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan S. McKoy was credited with the prosecution. For more information on Project Safe Childhood, please visit justice.gov/psc.
