Francisco Raymundo Dominguez-Sanchez, a 33-year-old Mexican national, has pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States, announced U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei.
The guilty plea comes after Dominguez-Sanchez was stopped by Border Patrol agents at a checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. On January 28, he was driving northbound when authorities discovered that he was an illegal alien who had been previously ordered removed from the country.
This is not the first time Dominguez-Sanchez has been convicted of the same crime. He was previously removed from the United States in 2013 and has since been removed eight more times, with the most recent removal occurring in 2023.
As a result of his guilty plea, Dominguez-Sanchez faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a possible $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced on June 25 by U.S. District Judge David Morales.
Dominguez-Sanchez has been and will remain in custody pending his sentencing hearing. The investigation was conducted by Border Patrol, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Martin is prosecuting the case.
The case is a stark reminder of the importance of securing the nation’s borders and holding individuals accountable for their actions. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to protect the citizens of this great nation.
