Fred Mandracchia, Bank Robbery, Massachusetts 2017

BOSTON – In a shocking turn of events, a Revere man has pleaded guilty to robbing 10 banks in a 19-day spree, leaving a trail of victims and law enforcement agencies hot on his tail.

Fred Mandracchia, 36, was identified as the mastermind behind the brazen bank robberies, which took place from late December 2016 to early January 2017. The defendant pleaded guilty to 10 counts of bank robbery in federal court in Boston.

According to investigators, Mandracchia’s crime spree began on December 19, 2016, with a robbery at a People’s United Bank branch in Boston. Over the next 19 days, he struck at nine other Boston-area banks, including Century Bank, Citizens Bank, East Boston Savings Bank, and Meetinghouse Bank.

The defendant was arrested in Chelsea on January 7, 2017, and subsequently confessed to the robberies. Mandracchia’s guilty plea comes as a result of a joint investigation by the Police Departments of Fall River, Boston, Malden, and Chelsea, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs scheduled sentencing for October 11, 2017. Mandracchia faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000 on each count.

Acting United States Attorney William D. Weinreb and Harold H. Shaw, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division, praised the collaborative effort that led to Mandracchia’s guilty plea. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelly Begg Lawrence of Weinreb’s Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging victims to come forward and report any potential connections to the defendant. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in preventing and solving crimes.

With a guilty plea secured, justice is one step closer for the victims of Mandracchia’s crimes. The Grimy Times will continue to provide updates on this case as more information becomes available.
