Freddie Lewis Tilton, Violent Kidnapping, Missouri 2020

A federal jury in Springfield, Missouri, has convicted 51-year-old Freddie Lewis Tilton and his accomplice, 39-year-old Alvin Dale Boyer, of violent kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

The jury delivered the guilty verdicts on September 17, 2020, following a one-hour and 32-minute deliberation.

Tilton, of Joplin, Missouri, was also convicted of stalking, his second conviction in a federal kidnapping case.

The victim, identified as S.T., was rescued from her attacker at a hotel room in Neosho, Missouri, on July 19, 2020. Evidence presented during the trial showed that Tilton and Boyer conspired to kidnap S.T. on July 18 and 19, 2020.

According to the evidence, Tilton had separated from S.T. and had an ex parte order of protection against him. When S.T. entered the room, she was assaulted by Tilton, who struck her repeatedly with a firearm and his fist. The gun jammed, and S.T. was assaulted for over eight minutes before law enforcement arrived.

Tilton attempted to shoot S.T. but escaped out of a window inside the motel room with a handgun. He fell to the ground as the guttering broke and ran away. Officers searched the motel room and found numerous indications that a violent, physical assault had taken place inside the room.

Under federal statutes, Tilton and Boyer each face a sentence of up to life in federal prison without parole. The maximum statutory sentence is prescribed by Congress and will be determined by the court based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.
