Brian Jason Gishie, Strangle Assault, Arizona 2023

PHOENIX, Ariz. – In a chilling case of domestic abuse, 46-year-old Brian Jason Gishie from Ganado, Arizona, was handed a 96-month prison term on July 16 by Senior U.S. District Judge David G. Campbell. The sentence is followed by three years of supervised release. Gishie, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, had previously pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon and assault of an intimate partner by strangling.

The brutal incident occurred on or about June 20, 2024, at Gishie’s residence in Greasewood, within the Navajo Nation community. The defendant used a baseball bat to strike his victim repeatedly, inflicting injuries on her head and body. Afterward, he strangled her for several seconds. The survivor was rushed to medical treatment for assault-related injuries.

Gishie’s criminal record includes previous convictions for domestic violence offenses. In 2004, he was convicted of Aggravated Domestic Violence in Maricopa County, and in 2019, he faced charges of Assault by Strangling in the District of Arizona.

The investigation into this case was led by the FBI Phoenix Division’s Flagstaff office and the Navajo Nation Police Department. The prosecution was handled by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona, Phoenix.
