Gang Members Sentenced to Life for Murderous RICO Plot

MINNEAPOLIS – The Highs gang’s reign of terror has come to a screeching halt as two members, Dantrell Johnson and Gregory Hamilton, have been sentenced to life in prison for their roles in a violent RICO conspiracy that ended with murder.

Judge Robert T. Miller upheld the jury’s verdict, confirming that both Johnson, 32, and Hamilton, 29, were guilty of Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) conspiracy and using a firearm to cause death. The court heard evidence detailing how these two Minneapolis residents orchestrated a campaign of violence that included ruthless shootings and murders.

Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division emphasized the severity of their crimes, stating, “These life sentences reflect our unwavering commitment to hold the most dangerous offenders accountable and remove violent gang networks from our communities.”

The ATF played a crucial role in this investigation, dedicating hundreds of hours alongside law enforcement partners. Assistant Director Brent Beavers of the ATF highlighted their efforts, saying, “We are proud of the meticulous work that brought this ruthless gang to justice.”

According to trial evidence, Hamilton and Johnson were key figures within the Highs gang, a criminal enterprise known for its control over territory north of West Broadway Avenue in Minneapolis. Their actions were part of a retaliatory scheme after a member was killed by rivals from the Lows gang.

The sentencing of Johnson and Hamilton is a stark reminder that those who threaten innocent community members with violence will face justice, as emphasized by Acting Assistant Director Rebecca Day of the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division. The Minneapolis community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that these dangerous individuals are no longer on their streets.”
