Capitol Heights resident Gary Alphonso Robinson, 27, has pleaded guilty to stealing eight firearms and possessing ammunition as a convicted felon.
The guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein, Special Agent in Charge Kevin Perkins of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Baltimore Field Office, Queen Anne’s County Sheriff Gary Hofmann, Colonel William M. Pallozzi, Superintendent of the Maryland State Police, and Chief Hank Stawinski of the Prince George’s County Police Department.
On July 27, 2015, Robinson entered a federally licensed firearms dealer in Stevensville, Maryland, by breaking a glass window and squeezing through the security bars. He smashed a display case and took a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun, a .44 caliber revolver, a .38 caliber revolver, and three .357 caliber revolvers. The stolen guns were handed to a co-conspirator through the broken window.
Robinson also had 43 rounds of 9mm ammunition hidden in a shoe in his bedroom closet at his residence in Capitol Heights. The ammunition was discovered during a search warrant executed on September 17, 2015.
Robinson had a previous felony conviction, making him prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for each of the two counts: theft of firearms and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.
U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow has scheduled sentencing for September 12, 2016, at 12:30 p.m.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the FBI, Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, and Prince George’s County Police Department for their work in the investigation.
