Georgia Man Caught with 349.54 Grams of Meth

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – A Georgia man has admitted to possessing a substantial amount of methamphetamine in West Virginia.

Gary Diaz, 55, of Roswell, Ga., pleaded guilty on Feb. 25 to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

According to court documents, law enforcement agents discovered the methamphetamine in Diaz’s vehicle during a traffic stop near Wayne County on November 16, 2012.

A K-9 unit gave a positive indication of the presence of drugs inside the vehicle, leading to the recovery of a quantity of methamphetamine weighing 349.54 grams.

The methamphetamine was later confirmed to be methamphetamine by the West Virginia State Police Forensic Laboratory.

Diaz faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine when he is sentenced on May 28, 2013 by United States District Chief Judge Robert C. Chambers.

The Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT) conducted the investigation, while Assistant United States Attorney Haley Bunn is in charge of the prosecution.

The controlled drug transactions that led to Diaz’s arrest involved a confidential informant purchasing methamphetamine from a known individual on November 13 and 14, 2012.

The transactions were part of a larger investigation into a methamphetamine distribution network in the region.
