Albertville Bank Heist: Georgia Man Indicted for February 2021 Robbery
A brazen bank robbery shook Albertville in February 2021, leaving authorities scrambling to catch the perpetrator. Now, nearly three years later, justice may be on the horizon. A federal grand jury has indicted Nekyle N. Chaney, a 45-year-old man from Covington, Georgia, for the crime.
According to the indictment, Chaney is accused of robbing the Regions Bank in Albertville by force, violence, or intimidation in February 2021. The FBI investigated the case with the assistance of the Albertville Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Catherine Crosby and Michael Royster are prosecuting the case, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
An indictment contains only charges, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Chaney’s fate now rests in the hands of the courts.
The FBI and local authorities worked tirelessly to bring Chaney to justice, and their efforts have paid off. The indictment is a significant step forward in the pursuit of accountability for this heinous crime.
As the case moves forward, the community can take heart in knowing that those responsible for bank robberies will be held accountable. The people of Albertville deserve nothing less.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of community policing and the critical role that law enforcement agencies play in keeping our streets safe.
