Gerardo Santis-Jiron, 36, a citizen of Guatemala, has been sentenced to 127 days’ imprisonment for illegally reentering the United States after being removed.
Santis-Jiron, also known as Pedro Simon Rivera-Perez, pleaded guilty on June 10, 2025, to one count of being found in the United States after illegal reentry.
According to court documents, Santis-Jiron had previously been removed from the United States in 2009 and illegally reentered the country without permission.
On April 27, 2025, immigration officials discovered Santis-Jiron at the Linn County Jail while he was in custody on state charges for operating while under the influence.
U.S. District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down the sentence in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In addition to the 127-day prison term, Santis-Jiron must also serve a one-year term of supervised release.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep and investigated by Enforcement and Removal Operations of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
