October 7, 1933, will be etched in the memory of Chicago’s underworld as the day Edgar B. Lebensberger, the city’s notorious gaming and night life king, met his demise. Shot through the head in his opulent Gold Coast home, Lebensberger’s slaying sent shockwaves through the streets of Chicago. Just six hours prior, he had been indicted by a Federal grand jury for his alleged involvement in the $500,000 Loop mail robbery of December 6, 1932.
