Jeremy Allen Wolfe, a 32-year-old from Glenville, West Virginia, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to 92 months for illegally possessing firearms. The sentence, handed down today in Clarksburg, marks the culmination of a years-long case tied to Wolfe’s possession of multiple weapons despite a prior felony conviction.
Wolfe pleaded guilty in September 2017 to one count of “Felon in Possession of Firearm,” a charge that carries severe penalties under federal law. The case traces back to November 2014, when authorities discovered Wolfe in possession of five firearms—three rifles and two shotguns—in Calhoun County. At the time, he was legally barred from owning any weapon due to a prior conviction.
That conviction? Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Gilmer County, a felony punishable by more than one year in prison. Under federal law, such convictions strip individuals of their right to possess firearms—making Wolfe’s possession not just reckless, but a serious federal offense.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the West Virginia State Police led the investigation, building a case that underscored the link between prior drug crimes and illegal gun possession. Their work culminated in federal charges, highlighting ongoing efforts to crack down on armed felons in rural counties.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew R. Cogar prosecuted the case, arguing for accountability under the law. Senior U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the proceedings, ultimately imposing the 92-month sentence as a deterrent to others with similar criminal histories.
Wolfe’s case adds to a growing tally of firearms prosecutions in West Virginia, where federal authorities continue to target repeat offenders. With no room for leniency, the sentence sends a clear message: felons caught with guns will face hard time.
