Giorgio Cosenza, a 29-year-old man from Gretna, Louisiana, pleaded guilty today to distributing child pornography, admitting to a years-long pattern of collecting, sharing, and even producing sexually explicit images of minors.
The case, prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana, centers on a digital trail uncovered after federal agents monitored an ad Cosenza posted on a New Orleans-based online classifieds site. Undercover FBI agents exchanged emails with Cosenza, during which he openly admitted to possessing and actively collecting videos and images of children being sexually exploited.
On April 14, 2016, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Cosenza’s residence, seizing a laptop and smartphone loaded with disturbing content. Forensic analysis revealed approximately 740 images and 30 videos of prepubescent children—some as young as three—being sexually victimized. The devices also contained evidence that Cosenza had produced and distributed explicit images of a 14-year-old girl with whom he claimed to have had sex years earlier.
Further investigation led to a warrant for Cosenza’s email account, which uncovered additional exchanges where he received and sent child sexual abuse material. Text messages from 2014 and 2015 showed Cosenza not only distributing illicit images but also expressing a desire to engage in sexual acts with children between the ages of six and fourteen.
Cosenza now faces a mandatory minimum of five years in federal prison and up to twenty years per count, followed by a lifetime of supervised release and a potential $250,000 fine. He will be required to register as a sex offender. U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt scheduled sentencing for April 6, 2017.
The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jordan Ginsberg as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation. U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite commended the FBI’s role in the investigation, which dismantled a predator’s digital network and helped prevent further harm to children.
