A 21-year-old Gillette man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a large cocaine trafficking operation.
Giovanny Bustamante Ibarra, of Gillette, Wyoming, was sentenced to 125 months’ imprisonment on July 22 for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and carrying firearms during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.
According to court documents, the Wyoming Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop on February 28 for expired registration on a 2011 Hyundai with Arizona license plates driven by Ibarra. A narcotics detection K9 partner indicated the presence of controlled substances within the vehicle.
During the search, approximately 491 grams of cocaine, three rifles, two handguns, and a suppressor were seized from the vehicle. Ibarra, who claimed ownership of the drugs and firearms, admitted in a post-Miranda interview that he intended to sell the cocaine in Gillette.
Ibarra was born and raised in the Phoenix area but moved to Gillette in October 2023. He was charged by complaint on March 5, indicted by a federal grand jury on March 13, and pleaded guilty on April 25.
The crime was investigated by the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
