Gloversville Man Sentenced for Distributing Child Pornography
In a disturbing case of child exploitation, Jonathan L. Morgan, a 32-year-old resident of Gloversville, New York, has pleaded guilty to distributing and possessing child pornography.
According to sources close to the investigation, Morgan admitted to sharing videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children via a phone-based application connected to the Internet from March 11 to March 12, 2020.
Additionally, Morgan confessed to possessing child pornography on two phones.
Acting United States Attorney Antoinette T. Bacon, and Thomas F. Relford, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced the charges against Morgan.
Morgan faces a minimum sentence of 5 years in prison and a term of post-release supervision of at least 5 years and up to life. Additionally, Morgan will be required to register as a sex offender.
The case was investigated by the FBI and its Child Exploitation Task Force, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Barnett as part of Project Safe Childhood.
Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative launched by the U.S. Attorney’s offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS) to combat child exploitation and rescue victims.
