In a shocking turn of events, convicted armed bank robber Grant Elmore Davis Jr. has been sentenced to life in federal prison plus 25 years for his role in a brazen armed bank robbery in Fort Myers, Florida.
According to court documents, Davis, 71, entered a bank in Fort Myers on October 31, 2023, and discharged a handgun while making verbal commands to the teller to give him money from the cash register.
After obtaining money from the teller, Davis fled the bank. This is not Davis’s first run-in with the law. He was previously convicted of armed bank robbery and using and carrying a short-barreled shotgun in relation to a crime of violence in November 2001.
The case was investigated by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan.
The sentencing comes as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The program brings together law enforcement and community leaders to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Davis entered a guilty plea on December 20, 2023. The court also ordered Davis to forfeit the firearm and ammunition used in the offense. The case is a stark reminder of the need for continued efforts to combat gun violence and violent crime in our communities.
As a result of this case, Davis will spend the remainder of his life in federal prison, a just outcome for his heinous crimes. Our thoughts are with the victims of this crime and their families, who will finally see justice served.
