GRIMY TIMES — In a chilling development out of Greenville, SC, 32-year-old Lewis Charles Landreth has entered a guilty plea in federal court for being a felon in possession of a firearm. This disturbing case took a dark turn when Landreth was apprehended with a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol in his motel room, where he shared quarters with his 6-year-old son.
The nightmare began in December 2015 when the United States Marshals Service Taskforce received a request to arrest Landreth on outstanding warrants from North Carolina. It was there, at an Anderson motel, that law enforcement officers discovered the loaded weapon, leaving no doubt about the gravity of the situation.
United States Attorney Beth Drake announced today that Landreth faces up to ten years in federal prison for this serious offense. The case, which also involved the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the ATF, has been handled by Assistant United States Attorney Max Cauthen from the Greenville office.
Judge Bruce Howe Hendricks of Charleston will determine Landreth’s sentence after reviewing the presentence report prepared by the U.S. Probation Office. This plea comes as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by illegal firearm possession and the relentless efforts of law enforcement to keep communities safe.
