Serial Bank Robber Sentenced to Prison
A notorious serial bank robber has been sentenced to prison for a string of robberies across the western United States. Gregory Jerome Brown, 28, of Bountiful, Utah, was sentenced to five years and three months in federal prison for robbing three banks.
The robberies took place in California, Nevada, and Utah between October and November 2017. Brown’s brazen crimes caught the attention of law enforcement and the public, with many wondering how one person could evade capture for so long.
According to court documents, Brown used index cards to write his demands and in two instances, threatened tellers with a gun. His getaway vehicle of choice was a motorcycle, which he used to flee the scenes of the crimes.
Brown was finally apprehended in Phoenix, Arizona, after fleeing south from the Utah bank robbery. At his guilty plea, he admitted to robbing the following banks:
- Wells Fargo Bank at 338 Elm Avenue, Auburn, California, on October 13, 2017
- Wells Fargo Bank at 2895 Northtowne Lane, Reno, Nevada, on October 14, 2017
- America First Credit Union at 2928 East Mall Drive, Saint George, Utah, on November 8, 2017
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with assistance from local police departments, including the Auburn Police Department, the Reno Police Department, the Saint George Police Department, and the Pleasant Grove Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Rodriguez prosecuted the case, bringing justice to the victims of Brown’s crimes. The sentence handed down by U.S. District Judge Kimberly J. Mueller reflects the severity of Brown’s crimes and the need to hold him accountable.
