A brazen bank robber has been brought to justice after a six-count indictment was handed down by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh. Gregory Magee, a 47-year-old resident of Pittsburgh, faces charges of armed bank robbery and bank robbery, according to Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song.
The indictment alleges that Magee robbed six area banks between 2016, netting a total of $118,957.00. The banks targeted by Magee include First Niagara Bank in Cranberry Township, First Merit Bank in New Castle, First Niagara Bank in McMurray, First Commonwealth Bank in Pittsburgh, Citizens Bank in Beaver Falls, and S&T Bank in Monroeville.
According to the indictment, Magee robbed the following banks:
On January 20, 2016, First Niagara Bank, 20111 Route 19, Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania 16066, of $5,526.00;
On February 29, 2016, First Merit Bank, 2090 West State Street, New Castle, Pennsylvania 16101, of $10,126.00;
On March 31, 2016, First Niagara Bank, 4073 Washington Road, McMurray, Pennsylvania 15317, of $9,133.00;
On June 8, 2016, First Commonwealth Bank, 5847 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15217, of $3,709.00;
On August 11, 2016, Citizens Bank, 2537 Constitution Boulevard, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania 15010, of $12,559.00; and,
On November 8, 2016, S&T Bank, 4580 Broadway Boulevard, Monroeville, Pennsylvania 15146, of $78,643.00.
Assistant United States Attorney Conor Lamb is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, the Monroeville Police Department, the Chippewa Township Police Department, and the Peters Township Police Department conducted the investigation leading to the indictment.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The maximum sentence for armed bank robbery is 25 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. The maximum sentence for bank robbery is 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
