Gregory Scott Runion, 33, of Seth, West Virginia, faces up to 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a federal gun crime on February 2, 2017.

A Boone County man has been caught with his hands on a firearm, despite being a convicted felon. Gregory Scott Runion admitted to selling a KBI SKS-45 rifle to a confidential informant on March 25, 2016, in Seth, Boone County. This is a serious crime, and we will not tolerate it.

The U.S. Route 119 Drug Task Force conducted the investigation, which ultimately led to Runion’s guilty plea. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Hanks is in charge of the prosecution.

Project Safe Neighborhoods is a nationwide commitment to reduce gun crime in the United States by networking existing local programs targeting gun crime. Gregory Scott Runion’s case is a prime example of the work that Project Safe Neighborhoods is doing.

Runion was prohibited from possessing any firearm under federal law because of a 2009 felony gun possession conviction in Monroe, Michigan. This conviction is a serious one, and it’s clear that Runion knew better than to possess a firearm.

The plea hearing was held before United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin. Gregory Scott Runion’s sentencing is set for February 2, 2017, where he will face up to 10 years in federal prison.
