Federal Indictments Unsealed in North Carolina

A federal grand jury in Raleigh, North Carolina, has unsealed indictments against five foreign nationals accused of serious crimes.

The defendants, David Francisco Bamacaya-Yala, 22, of Guatemala, Omar Maldonado Eligio, 31, of Mexico, Martin Villegas-Martinez, 49, of Mexico, David Baza-Solis, 29, of Mexico, and Jose Ricardo Ayala-Rodas, 38, of Guatemala, were charged with various crimes related to firearms and reentry into the United States.

According to court documents, Bamaca-Yala, previously deported three times, was found in Harnett County. Maldonado Eligio, previously deported two times, was found in Wake County, while Villegas-Martinez, previously deported, was found in Johnston County.

The indictments also accuse Baza-Solis and Ayala-Rodas of being in unlawful possession of a firearm. Baza-Solis was found in Wilson County, while Ayala-Rodas was found in Harnett County.

Under federal law, if convicted, the defendants face significant penalties. Bamaca-Yala, Maldonado Eligio, and Villegas-Martinez could face up to two years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, if convicted of illegal reentry.

On the other hand, Baza-Solis and Ayala-Rodas could face up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, if convicted of being in unlawful possession of a firearm.

It’s essential to note that the charges and allegations contained in the indictments are merely accusations. The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The cases are being investigated by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and Homeland Security Investigations.
