Guatemalan National Diaz Charged with Assaulting Fed Agents

PROVIDENCE – A shocking confrontation unfolded as Cristian Aroldo Pineda Diaz, a 37-year-old Guatemalan national, was charged with assaulting federal law enforcement officers. Diaz, who entered the United States without inspection in 2006, is currently on bail facing felony domestic assault charges and violation of a protective order in Rhode Island state court.

According to court documents, on July 15, 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal officers, a DEA agent, and a Deputy U.S. Marshal approached Diaz for an immigration arrest warrant. In a desperate bid to evade capture, Diaz tackled the DEA agent, causing severe injuries. The struggle did not end there as Diaz continued to resist, leading to injuries for both an immigration officer and a DEA agent, who required medical attention.

Court records reveal that on February 5, 2023, Diaz was arrested in Central Falls on charges of domestic breaking and entering, domestic disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. A no-contact order was issued after he reportedly violated it by contacting the complainant. On February 16, 2023, an arrest warrant was issued for six counts of felony domestic assault and violation of a protective order.

Diaz was detained at the ACI before being released on bail in April 2023. Assistant U.S. Attorney G. Michael Seaman is handling the federal assault case, while U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted the investigation.

This incident is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at tackling illegal immigration, eliminating cartels, and protecting communities from violent crime. The operation leverages resources from OCDETFs and PSN to streamline efforts against organized crime.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
