Brandon K. McBride, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Indiana 2023

FORT WAYNE — A Fort Wayne man has been sentenced to a long stretch behind bars for his involvement in a pair of brazen handgun incidents, including one in which he led police on an hours-long chase through city streets.

Brandon K. McBride, 38, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, a charge that came with a hefty price — 150 months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release. The harsh sentence was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge Holly A. Brady.

The trouble began on August 1, 2023, just 13 days after McBride was discharged from parole for a felony handgun conviction. According to court documents, he was found in possession of a stolen handgun containing a 50-round drum-style magazine.

But that wasn’t the end of it. On September 22, 2023, McBride was pulled over by police after taking officers on an hour-long pursuit through the streets of Fort Wayne and New Haven. The chase came to an end when McBride struck two police vehicles before being taken into custody.

During the pursuit, police found three firearms in McBride’s vehicle, including a machine gun. The discovery of these firearms, coupled with McBride’s prior convictions, only added fuel to the fire. He has eight prior felony convictions and 21 misdemeanor convictions.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, with assistance from the Fort Wayne Police Department and the New Haven Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Stacey R. Speith prosecuted the case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.

As part of the PSN program, the Department of Justice has launched a violent crime reduction strategy that focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
