Gunpoint Robbery of US Mail Carrier: 3 Plead Guilty

In a brazen act of violence, three men pleaded guilty to robbing a US mail carrier at gunpoint in Texas, stealing a highly sought-after USPS master key.

According to court documents, Jlynn Laneil Dunn, 21, Daylin Darden, 24, and D Colby Vashion Lewis, 23, were charged with robbery of mail matter, money, or other property of the United States in February 2024. The indictment followed a month later, and each defendant entered their pleas on May 8, 2024.

Prosecutors revealed that the defendants, armed with a gun, demanded the mail carrier’s USPS master key on October 2, 2023. The key, used by letter carriers to access blue collection boxes, allows individuals to steal sensitive information, including checks, credit cards, and bank account details.

Surveillance video captured the robbery, as well as the defendants’ flight from the scene. A subsequent search of an address associated with one of the defendants uncovered guns, drugs, mail, checks, and a DVR system. The footage showed the defendants gathered at the residence prior to the robbery and returning after, with one defendant seen holding a small item attached to a long gold chain – the same type of chain used to carry USPS master keys.

A search of Mr. Dunn’s Instagram account revealed a direct message sent 10 to 12 minutes before the robbery, which read, “I’m tryna go get us a key rn so I can get these real scam Money.” This message further implicates the defendants’ involvement in the crime.

The defendants now face up to 10 years in federal prison, with sentencing set for September 3, 2024. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service conducted the investigation, assisted by the Fort Worth and Arlington Police Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Beck is prosecuting the case.
