SHREVEPORT, La. — A Vivian resident has pleaded guilty for the heinous offense of failing to update his sex offender registration after relocating from Colorado to Louisiana.
Graham Cooper Gyde, 25, entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr., admitting to one count of failure to update sex offender registration. Gyde’s criminal past includes a sexual assault conviction in Golden, Colo., in October 2012, for which he registered as a sex offender in February 2013 and again in April 2016, falsely stating his residence was in Colorado.
However, Gyde moved to Vivian, Louisiana, and lived there for three and a half months without updating his registration. His deceitful ways led to an arrest by the Vivian Police Department in November 2016 on charges related to the non-update of his sex offender registry.
The court has set a harrowing sentencing date of August 17, 2017, where Gyde could face up to 10 years in prison, five years to life of supervised release, and a staggering $250,000 fine. This case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Vivian Police Department, with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney R. Paul Gillespie handling the prosecution.
Let this serve as a stark reminder that the justice system is watching — even when criminals believe they have outsmarted it. Gyde’s actions have not gone unnoticed, and he must now face the consequences of his transgressions.
