A federal jury has convicted a Maryland resident of violent crime, sending shockwaves through the community.
Defendant Hammond, whose full name was not immediately disclosed, was found guilty of the violent crime by the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
The case, Hammond vs. United States, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland on October 13, 2022. The court’s decision marks a significant victory for federal law enforcement officials, who have been working tirelessly to combat violent crime in the state.
According to court documents, Hammond was charged with engaging in a violent crime that resulted in serious bodily injury to another person. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The conviction is a result of an investigation led by the FBI’s Violent Crime Task Force, which worked closely with local law enforcement agencies to build a case against Hammond. The task force was able to gather evidence and testimony that ultimately led to Hammond’s conviction.
Hammond is scheduled to be sentenced on a date to be determined by the court. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland has not yet announced whether it will seek the maximum sentence for Hammond.
