Alan Howell Parrot, Assault on Federal Officer, Maine 2023

BANGOR, Maine: A Hancock man was sentenced to two years of probation and a $5,000 fine for assaulting a federal officer.

Alan Howell Parrot, 69, was found guilty by a federal jury on November 29, 2023, following a one-day trial. The sentencing was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker.

The assault occurred on June 22, 2023, when FBI special agents were executing a federal search warrant at Parrot’s residence in Hancock. According to evidence presented at trial, Parrot attempted to close the door and became combative, kicking one agent in the abdomen and pushing her backwards, resulting in injuries to her arm and elbow.

The FBI investigated the case and praised the swift prosecution of Parrot. “Alan Parrot’s attack on an FBI special agent is yet another reminder of the danger law enforcement officers face on a daily basis – and the successful prosecution of Mr. Parrot should serve as a warning to all that if you assault and injure a law enforcement officer, the consequence is a felony conviction,” said Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Division.

Parrot’s actions put not only himself but also the federal agent at risk. The agent suffered injuries to her arm and elbow, and the incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers every day.

Parrot’s sentencing marks a significant outcome in the case, and the federal government’s commitment to prosecuting those who assault and injure law enforcement officers will continue to be a priority. The ruling should serve as a warning to others who may consider similar actions.
