Hartford Man Marvyn Escobar Charged with Child Pornography

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Marvyn Escobar, a 26-year-old Hartford resident, has been charged with child exploitation offenses, following his arrest for receiving sexually explicit images of a 13-year-old girl. Escobar, who is accused of communicating with the minor victim via Discord, faces serious charges.

According to court documents and statements made in court, the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force and the Hartford Police Department uncovered that Escobar initiated sexually explicit communications with the girl on July 19, 2023. He not only sent her explicit images and videos but also requested she send him nude pictures of herself, which she did.

Escobar was already under scrutiny for his previous sexual assault of a minor female in 2018 and 2019. He was sentenced to five years of jail, suspended, and three years of probation for risk of injury to children prior to this incident. The new charges against him include receipt of child pornography, carrying a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years and a maximum of 20 years, as well as transfer of obscene material to a minor with a potential sentence of up to 10 years.

United States Attorney Vanessa Roberts Avery emphasized that the complaint against Escobar is merely an accusation and does not constitute proof of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This investigation is being conducted by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force, which includes federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies such as the Hartford Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda S. Oakes is prosecuting the case through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative.
