Hector Manuel Hurtado, Violent Crime, Illinois 2020

In a shocking turn of events, Hector Manuel Hurtado, a 35-year-old resident of Chicago, was charged with multiple violent crimes in the Illinois Northern District Federal Court (ILND Federal District).

According to court documents, Hurtado’s charges include: 18:1951 Felon in possession of a firearm; 18:924(c) Possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence; 18:922(g)(1) Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

The charges stemmed from a reported incident on August 15, 2020, where Hurtado allegedly brandished a firearm during a dispute with multiple individuals. The incident left several people injured and one person dead.

Following a thorough investigation by the FBI and local law enforcement, Hurtado was taken into custody on September 3, 2020. His arraignment was held on the same day, where he was formally charged with the aforementioned crimes.

A trial date was set, and the case moved forward with Hurtado’s defense team mounting a strong case. However, as the case progressed, it became clear that the prosecution had a strong case against Hurtado.

On February 10, 2022, Hurtado pleaded guilty to one count of 18:922(g)(1), Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, in exchange for the dismissal of the other charges. He was subsequently sentenced to 96 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release.

Upon his release from prison, Hurtado will be required to comply with strict conditions, including surrendering all firearms and ammunition in his possession.
