In a shocking display of remorse, Henry Clay Beattie Jr. confessed to the heinous crime of murdering his wife just hours before his scheduled execution in the electric chair. The 23-year-old Beattie Jr. made the stunning admission in a written statement, signed in the presence of two attending ministers, at 7:23 a.m. on November 24, 1911, at the Richmond State Penitentiary in Richmond, Virginia.
