CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A grim turn in the criminal landscape of Harrison County as Carl David Davis faces a severe judgment for his firearms violations. The Hepzibah resident was sentenced today to 63 months behind bars for possession of explosives and an unlawful firearm.
Davis, aged 32, pleaded guilty last June to charges of ‘Possession of an Explosive by a Prohibited Person’ and ‘Unlawful Possession of a Firearm’. His prohibited status stemmed from a prior conviction, yet he was caught with two electric explosive detonators (blasting caps) in November 2018 and a .22 caliber rifle in October 2020 within the county’s borders.
The court’s ruling also mandated Davis to forfeit an arsenal of weaponry, including a 9mm pistol, ammunition rounds for various calibers, and a shotgun shell. The total value of this cache of illegal firearms and explosives is incalculable in terms of potential harm averted by law enforcement.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon S. Flower led the prosecution on behalf of the government, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office handling the investigation. The court’s decision was presided over by U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh.
For Davis, this sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of illegal firearms possession in West Virginia. His case serves as a warning to others that such actions will not go unpunished.
