JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – A local man’s life is about to take a dark turn as he faces the harsh reality of his heroin dealing days.
Matthew John Claycomb, 22, of Johnstown, pleaded guilty to one count of violating federal narcotics laws in federal court, announced United States Attorney David J. Hickton today.
According to court documents, on January 25, 2013, Claycomb and his co-defendants distributed less than 100 grams of heroin, a deal that will now haunt him for years to come.
Court proceedings will continue as Judge Kim R. Gibson has scheduled sentencing for December 2, 2014, at 10 a.m. – a date that will mark a new beginning for Claycomb, but one that will be marked by the weight of his crimes.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie L. Haines is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cambria County Drug Task Force conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Matthew John Claycomb, a case that highlights the severity of heroin trafficking in the area.
