Hiasom Ali, Rioting, Mississippi 2016

Hiasom Ali, a 39-year-old Egyptian national, was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for his role in a violent prison riot at the Adams County Correctional facility in Jackson, Mississippi.

The riot, which occurred on May 20, 2012, resulted in the death of one correctional officer and the assault of several others. Ali was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $1,382,313.

The damage to the facility was estimated to be $1,305,142.00. The rioters held several correctional officers hostage for several hours, causing chaos and destruction throughout the facility.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Patrick Lemon and Jerry Rushing prosecuted the case.

Senior U.S. District Judge David Bramlette III sentenced Ali on April 12, 2016, to the 51-month prison term. Ali had previously pled guilty to the rioting charge on May 11, 2014.

Ali’s sentence is a result of his involvement in the violent prison riot, which had severe consequences for the correctional officers and the facility as a whole. The restitution ordered by the court will also help to compensate for the damage caused by the riot.

The Adams County Correctional facility is a federal prison operated by the Bureau of Prisons. The facility houses inmates who have been convicted of federal crimes.
