Hit-and-Run Horror: Cop Held for Grand Jury

Washington D.C., November 21, 1932 – In a shocking turn of events, Policeman William T. Schlosser was held for grand jury action today by a coroner’s jury investigating the hit-and-run death of 60-year-old Mrs. Mathilda King, a cook who was struck and killed by an automobile in the 2900 block of Massachusetts Avenue on Friday night.

According to eyewitnesses, Mrs. King suddenly appeared in the center of the street, prompting Policeman Schlosser to swerve his car to avoid her. However, he claimed that he still managed to strike Mrs. King, leaving her lifeless on the pavement.

Mrs. Schlosser’s sister, Mrs. Grace Adams, was a passenger in the car at the time of the accident. In a harrowing account, she testified that after the impact, she and her brother became hysterical. ‘I know we struck something because I felt the impact,’ she said, her voice trembling. ‘I screamed and became hysterical.’

The taxi driver who witnessed the incident, however, denied that any other cars had driven over Mrs. King’s body after the accident.

As the coroner’s jury deliberated, Mrs. Adams, still visibly shaken, fainted in the vestibule of the Morgue. Thankfully, she was revived quickly.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many demanding justice for Mrs. King’s untimely death. The grand jury’s decision to hold Policeman Schlosser is a significant development in the case, and one that will undoubtedly have far-reaching consequences.
