Hollis Owens, Federal Drug and Firearm Offenses, Massachusetts 2023

BOSTON – In a major crackdown on illicit activities, a Canton man has been sentenced to serve time for multiple drug and firearm offenses.

Hollis Owens, 44, was handed a four-year prison sentence by U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs, along with three years of supervised release.

The charges against Owens stem from a lengthy investigation initiated by law enforcement officers in Framingham, who were probing the illegal distribution of cocaine in the area.

In the spring of 2016, the officers conducted several controlled purchases of cocaine from Owens, which ultimately led to a search of his residence in April 2016.

During the search, authorities seized approximately 18 grams of crack cocaine, a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, 114 rounds of various caliber ammunition, and $1,869 in cash.

It is worth noting that Owens is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior state felony conviction.

Acting United States Attorney William D. Weinreb and Mickey D. Leadingham, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Boston Field Division, made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Soivilien of Weinreb’s Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.

Hollis Owens, 44, was found guilty of one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition and four counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

The sentencing took place on an unspecified date, but the investigation began in the spring of 2016 and resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of illicit substances and firearms.

The total amount of $1,869 in cash was also seized during the raid on Owens’ residence.
