NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – Abraham RAMIREZ-CANTOR, a 40-year-old Honduran national, admitted today to violating federal law by illegally re-entering the United States after being previously deported. The plea, accepted by United States District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo, marks the culmination of a case highlighting the ongoing struggle to control the nation’s borders and enforce immigration laws.
According to court documents, RAMIREZ-CANTOR was initially removed from the United States on November 21, 2005. Despite this prior removal, he was discovered within the Eastern District of Louisiana on April 3, 2025. Crucially, he had not obtained the necessary authorization from either the Attorney General of the United States or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to legally re-enter the country. This constitutes a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1326(a).
The investigation, led by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), revealed a clear breach of established immigration protocols. While details surrounding the circumstances of his re-entry remain sparse, the prosecution successfully argued that RAMIREZ-CANTOR knowingly disregarded the legal ramifications of his actions. The Grimy Times has learned that ICE has been ramping up enforcement in the Gulf Coast region.
In a surprising turn, Judge Milazzo sentenced RAMIREZ-CANTOR to time served. While the specifics of this decision aren’t immediately clear, it’s likely influenced by factors such as the length of time he’d already been detained or mitigating circumstances presented during the proceedings. Critics may question the leniency, but the judge clearly saw reason to avoid further incarceration.
Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson praised the dedication of ICE agents in pursuing this case. Assistant United States Attorney Duane A. Evans, of the General Crimes Unit, skillfully prosecuted the matter, demonstrating the Justice Department’s commitment to upholding immigration laws. This case is being touted as a success within the larger framework of “Operation Take Back America.”
Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative, aims to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and safeguard American communities. The operation consolidates resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN), signaling a more aggressive approach to border security and criminal enforcement. Whether this operation will truly stem the tide of illegal immigration remains to be seen, but the DOJ is sending a clear message: illegal entry will be prosecuted.
