Four Houston men are behind bars after a violent attempt to hijack an armored car servicing an Amegy Bank branch on North Sam Houston Tollway East. The botched heist, which ended in gunfire and one suspect’s death, was the result of weeks-long planning, federal prosecutors say. Marc Anthony Hill, 46, Trayvees Duncan-Bush, 29, Nelson Alexander Polk, 37, and John Edward Scott, 40, are all charged in a federal criminal complaint unsealed today.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office, led by Kenneth Magidson, announced the charges following a joint operation by the FBI and Houston Police Department. The suspects allegedly plotted to rob the armored vehicle and had even planned the attempted murder of the armored car courier. Their target: the Amegy Bank located at 400 North Sam Houston Tollway East—a routine stop for cash deliveries and pickups.
Three of the four—Hill, Duncan-Bush, and Polk—were apprehended at the scene during a high-risk enforcement action. Scott initially fled but was taken into custody later. As officers moved in, one suspect opened fire, prompting a deadly exchange. He was shot, transported to a local hospital, and pronounced dead from his injuries.
The surviving defendants now face federal charges of conspiracy to commit interference with commerce by robbery and aiding and abetting the use of a firearm during a crime of violence. If convicted, each charge carries severe penalties: up to 20 years in prison for the robbery count, and a mandatory minimum five-year sentence for the firearm offense—stacked consecutively.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Richard Hanes and Heather Winter are prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the FBI and HPD with support from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. The federal complaint details surveillance footage, intercepted communications, and forensic evidence linking the suspects to the planned attack.
A criminal complaint is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The four are expected to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dena Palermo tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. for initial proceedings.
