Hudson County Man Charged with Production of Child Pornography

Newark, N.J. – A chilling case of online child exploitation has emerged as Julio Albery Nunez, a 27-year-old from West New York in Hudson County, faces serious charges for producing and possessing images of child sexual abuse.

Nunez was arrested on May 20, 2024, after an extensive investigation that began in December 2022. He made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge José R. Almonte in Newark federal court and is currently detained.

According to court documents, Nunez contacted a minor victim online, posing as a teenage girl. He requested and received videos depicting child sexual abuse. On the morning of May 20, law enforcement conducted a search at his home.

The charges against Nunez are severe. Production of child pornography carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, with a maximum of 30 years and a $250,000 fine. Possession of child exploitation material could lead to up to 10 years in prison and the same fine amount.

U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger credited FBI Newark’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force for leading the investigation. Special Agent in Charge James E. Dennehy in Newark directed the task force, and the West New York Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office were also instrumental.

This case is a part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert Taj Moore and Rebecca Sussman.

The charges against Nunez are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
