BODY:
A New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to a 13-year scheme that brought foreign nationals to the US through fraudulently obtained visas. Hyung Ki Kim, 60, of New Jersey, was the Director of the International Leadership Training Program (ILTP), an organization he claimed was a leadership training and character development program.
However, court documents reveal that ILTP was used as a front to bring foreign nationals to the US and exploit their labor. Kim and his co-conspirators would have these individuals work for meager wages, telling them the money they raised was going to charitable causes.
The scheme, which lasted for over a decade, was uncovered by the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva stated that the division will continue to investigate and prosecute those who violate immigration and tax laws while exploiting the labor of young individuals.
Kim’s guilty plea comes with significant consequences. While the exact sentence has not been announced, his plea agreement likely includes a lengthy prison term and a substantial fine. The exact amount of the fine is not specified, but it’s likely to be in the millions, considering the scope of the scheme.
The case highlights the darker side of immigration and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals. It also serves as a reminder that those who break the law will face severe consequences. As the investigation continues, it’s clear that Kim’s actions will have far-reaching repercussions.
The case is a stark reminder of the importance of upholding the law and protecting the rights of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status. The Justice Department’s efforts to bring Kim to justice are a testament to their commitment to combating immigration and tax-related crimes.
