Zuni man sentenced to 7 years in federal prison for firearms-related offense.

Albuquerque, NM – In a shocking case of a debt gone wrong, Ian Channing Lasiloo, a 31-year-old enrolled member of the Zuni Tribe, has been sentenced to 7 years in federal prison for a firearms-related offense. The incident occurred on August 15, 2022, when Lasiloo demanded payment of a $40 debt from his cousin, John Doe.

According to court documents, Lasiloo drove to Doe’s residence and confronted him with a handgun, pointing it at his face before aiming at the ground and firing. The bullet struck Doe in the left heel, causing a superficial wound that required treatment at Zuni Hospital.

Lasiloo was apprehended by law enforcement the following day and expressed remorse for his actions, stating that he had intended to frighten Doe due to the alleged debt.

U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today. The Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Zuni Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Robert James Booth II is prosecuting the case.

Lasiloo will be subject to 3 years of supervised release upon his release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system.
